Very scarce smaller size rooster weathervane
by The J. Howard Co., active 1850-1868, West Bridgewater,
Massachusetts. Composed of a hollow cast zinc body with a cut and

two sizes, this being the smaller, more elusive, version.
Dimensions: 14.5" tall, 12" wide and about 3.5' inches thick. The
Howard Co. was one of the country's earliest manufacturers of
weathervanes in New England and are highly sought after and prized
by collectors. In 1868 the company changed its name to The Washburn
Company which continued making vanes well into the 20th century.

Doris Stauble, 1918-2007. Wiscasset, Maine. Her arrangements are
iconic with collectors of New England antiques and accessories and
while they don't have great age, they have established a place in
collections from coast to coast. Like any artisan, some of her
arrangements are better than others, but take a good look at this
offering and I think you'll agree, this one sets a very high bar. An
early wallpaper box was selected and filled with complimentary
colorful fruits and floral accoutrements. This is truly one of the
finest arrangements we have ever owned. Dimensions: 11 x 10 x 7.5.

19th century
full body "DEXTER" horse weathervane. Attributed to The
Cushing and White Co.,1875-1890, Waltham, Massachusetts. In the 19th
century, horse weathervane forms were patterned after famous race
horses of the day and in my opinion, the Dexter form is my all time
favorite as it exhibits great form and powerful movement. It appears
to have been stripped at some point in its history, but what remains
is very appealing. The raw copper has taken on a wonderful warm and
rich tone with what I feel are the remains of its original oxidized
verdigris color. Dimensions: 18"T, 27"W and 4"D. There are no

Rare and important hollow body lamb weathervane. Attributed
to Cushing and White Co., Waltham, Massachusetts, c1870-1885. Vanes
of this form are quite elusive and seriously sought after by
collectors and institutions. This example is quite unusual having a
textured repousse body which was done to simulate its natural wool.
I have seen other lamb weathervanes by C & W that did not have this
surface. Its original gold surface was later painted over in black
paint which has weathered over the years thereafter revealing traces
of its original color and surface as shown in the images. Size:

RARE Puffy Sleeve
Artist watercolor silhouette. Ezra Wood, 1798-1841,
Buckland, Massachusetts, the artist of these long unidentified
silhouettes was unearthed a few years ago by Michael and Susanne
Payne, Bio-research, New York. This is a very unusual example which
depicts a young boy, 12 years old, holding a book dated 1830. We
know of only one other male figure that is posed with a book in hand
as most often books were associated with young girls or women. It
remains in its original untouched condition including its frame and
historic glass. See the exact example on page 47 of A Loving
Likeness, American portraits of the 19th Century written by Marna
Anderson and featuring the collection of Ray and Susan Egan. If
you're a serious silhouette collector, take this great

Very fine pair of
New England watercolor silhouettes. Both have similarities to
the hand of Ezra Wood (the puffy sleeve artist), but as much as they
resemble his work, I'm more comfortable associating them with an
unknown hand depicting Miss Boynton on page 51 of "A Loving
Likeness" from the collection of Ray and Susan Egan. It isn't too
far-fetched to think this artist and Ezra Wood lived near each other
and likely knew one another. The pair falls into that upper echelon
of silhouette collecting which is intensely sought after by advanced
collectors. Each is offered in their original frames under
historic glass with each being back with an acid free layer of
protection. c1830-35 Size: 4.75 x 6.75
