Description

19th century George Boyd Yellowlegs shorebird decoy, 1873-1941, Seabrook, New Hampshire. Boyd is considered by many to be one of New England's finest sport carvers as evidenced by this example. His ducks and shorebird decoys are found in major collections and in important museums nationwide. His consistent lines are easily recognizable by those in the know and run true to form from one carving to the next. The paint is original, the bill is an old replacement as is a minute chip on its tail. It measures 10.5 x 5.5 x 2.5 and comes on a modern metal stand. Inventory number 24PD137.

$2950.

Augustus " Gus" Wilson black duck decoy, 1864-1950, South Portland, Maine. Being a lighthouse keeper gave him ample time to pursue one of his favorite hobbies/pastimes of carving decoys. His decoys are highly prized and found in major collections everywhere. In thinking of the term folk art, Wilson's decoys exemplify just that. His unique almond-shaped eyes are further complimented by the relief carved wings which terminate in a sharp point near the end of its tail. Most of its original paint remains with exception of some minor neck work and small areas of touch up on its back. I also like the fact that its head is carved looking slightly to its left. It's a nice touch which elevates its pose and creates more desirability. Size: 17.5 x 6.6 x 8. Inventory number 24PD99.

$1850.

19th century hinged Parcheesi game board. Made from a very thin single piece of wood which is further surrounded and complemented with a perimeter moulding for a more finished look. Its vibrant 6 color paint remains in strong stable condition which shows minimal wear. Size: 19 x 19. Inventory number 24PD192.

$1850.

Early 20th century small red market basket with a fixed handle. Measuring only 7.5  4 x 9.5 it remains in fine pristine condition. c1920. Inventory number 24PD149.

Early 20th century small blue egg basket with a fixed handle. It measures only 5 inches tall, 3.5 in diameter and remains in fine pristine condition. c1920. Inventory number 24PD151.

Note all three baskets came from the same collection.

J. H. Gillespie, 1793-1849, marriage portraits of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boardman. Each is a fine early example of his work and each remains in their original frames which measure 4.5 x 5.25. At first glance one would not identify these as Gillespie's, but being signed verso supports his hand. Both reflect the exceptional detail one associates with his portraits. Inventory number 24PD201

A 20th century whirligig of a man spinning a patriotic propeller. We think this is particularly desirable because of its very small size which makes it very practical to display. It measures only 20 inches long and remains in virtually unused condition. Another attractive feature are the unsigned scenic paintings which decorate both sides of its vane. We've never seen this on a gig, ever. c1930-40 from a Maine collection. Inventory number 24PD232.

Small single lapped pantry box in exuberant red paint. Excellent structural condition with the word "Soda" on its cover. It measures only 6.5 inches in diameter and 2.75 deep. Late 19th/early 20th century. Inventory number 24PD230.

$350.

Cast iron Uncle Sam door stop. Great original paint with enough wear and loss to support its mid-century age. Size: 9 inches tall, 4.5" wide. Inventory number 24PD167.

Cast iron door stop which I'll call "The Lawyer". Excellent condition with its original paint in fine untouched condition. Size: 10 inches tall, 5.24" wide. Inventory number 24PD172

A fine 18th century hand forged New England door latch. Beautifully made and remaining in superb original condition. Size: 15 inches tall. Inventory number 24PD181.

Early 19th century wooden button hole lapped keg in original green paint. This is a real survivor remaining in condition that supports its careful use and not abuse. Size: 9 x 8 x 7.25. Inventory number 24PD184.

$1100.

19th century hand painted tombstone shaped clock face. While there is some wear on the dial, the colorful bird and fruits in its upper cartouche add much to its overall appeal and desire. Size: 18 x 13. Inventory number 24PD185.

$375.

A very nice 19th century, single socket, half size punched tin lantern. Its simple punched arched top decoration is quite sculptural and very appealing to  lantern collectors. Its only flaw is its door keeper has broken off decades ago, but these are mostly displayed with its door opened. Great structural condition, color and surface. Inventory number 24PD189.

$450.

INCREDIBLY RARE 18th century signed wedding band hogscraper candlestick on an octagon base. Deaccessioned from an important New England collection and remaining in splendid condition. Signed Rulliere on its oversized hanger. Size: 7.25 inches tall on a 4.25' base. Inventory number 24PD212.

Very unusual diamond shaped slat basket with a fixed handle that could very well be  Shaker. We are not Shaker experts, but know they did make baskets in this form. Fine warm toning. Excellent condition, free of any issues. Inventory number 24PD204.

$695.

A charming OOC 19th century portrait of a young girl with blonde sausage curls, deep blue eyes and berry red lips. She's wearing a bright blue dress with a saw tooth lace collar. On several points she resembles the flat work of the Prior-Hamblin school, c1830. Some trivial surface blemishes, but nothing that would command your attention. She rests in her original crusty black frame which measures 18 x 14. Inventory number 24PD205.

$2250.

A spirited mid-century spearing decoy with unusually large tin fins. Excellent overall condition measuring 8 inches long and displaying mild use and wear. Original and very colorful paint decoration. Probably from Michigan. Inventory number 24PD229.

Early Bellarmine jug. German 17th century. Excellent condition with good color and a very fine and crisp facial impression. It measures 8.5 inches tall. 5 inches in diameter. Inventory number 24PD228.
