Description

Very scarce smaller size rooster weathervane by The J. Howard Co., active 1850-1868, West Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Composed of a hollow cast zinc body with a cut and formed copper tail and feet. Excellent overall condition with a fine and natural color and surface. Howard made rooster weathervanes in two sizes, this being the smaller, more elusive, version. Dimensions: 14.5" tall, 12" wide and about 3.5' inches thick. The Howard Co. was one of the country's earliest manufacturers of weathervanes in New England and are highly sought after and prized by collectors. In 1868 the company changed its name to The Washburn Company which continued making vanes well into the 20th century. Inventory number 25-343.

$11,500. INQUIRE

A hand carved and applied likeness of Lady Liberty embellished with stars and the American flag. A few historic abrasions exist, but overall it presents well and is framed with a modern gold frame. If you're a patriotic collector, please consider this exceptional offering which will truly embellish your collection. Dimensions: 24 x 22.5 overall. Inventory number 25-324.

A fine 19th century crooked knife with 6 graduated stacked hearts. Skillfully carved and remaining in prime condition. Wonderful color and surface presented on a custom museum stand. Size: 8' tall. Probably northern Maine or Nova Scotia origin. Inventory number 24-225.

Maine LOBSTER sign. This sign was on display at the Gilmore Seafood Store and restaurant just off Rte 1 south of the bridge in Bath, Maine. The company is now out of business, but its long-standing memory lives on in this sign. Very good weathered condition with its eye-catching "LOBSTER" focal point. Size: 30 x 29. Inventory number 25-374.

19th century hand carved and painted Odd Fellows Heart in Hand symbol. Of all the symbols used in Odd Fellow lodges, this form is my all time favorite. While they did offer this form with painted hearts, the heart on this example is relief carved which adds to its appeal and desirability. Size: Mounted on a modern wooden base, it measures 13'' tall and remains in splendid condition. Inventory number 25-375.

$2850. INQUIRE

An exceptional 19th century eye dazzling, paint decorated Maine dome top box. The fine surface and condition of this box tells us not only of its long lifetime, but the care it was given over the years to have survived so very well. It was made from New England white pine with dovetail construction. Size: 24 x 12 x11. Inventory number 25-384.

A wonderful hand stitched quilt in patriotic colors. I know there's a name for this pattern, but I'm sorry I just don't know it. I buy quilts that project well with great design, color and condition and this beauty met the criteria. I'm sure it was hardly ever used as its present condition suggests and the intense ground stitching in the white areas further advances its appeal. . Size: 70 x 80. c1920. Inventory number 25-386.

$1100. INQUIRE

A decorative, highly detailed lion's head. I'll guess its age is about mid-century and made from molded resin. A few trivial knocks, but overall quite good as the picture suggests. Nice color and surface. Size: 12'' wide, 17.5" tall and projects about 9' from the wall. Inventory number 25-389.

$495. INQUIRE

An early 20th OOP painting of a seagull standing on rippled wind-blown sand. I have owned this painting for nearly 20 years as it hung in the kitchen of my home in Wiscasset. It's time for another to love it as I have over the years. Size: 9 x 12 overall. Inventory number 25-377.

A small, 19th century open face diorama of a 4 masted white hulled ship. This little gem was love at first sight for us when we bought it from a long time private Maine collection just recently. We were very pleased to have been invited to this collection with several items being offered for the first time in this update. Measuring 11.5 x 9 overall, it remains in excellent condition. Inventory number 25-376.

A tiny 13 star American parade flag dating from the late 19th century in an appropriate frame of the same period. Mint condition. Size: 3 x 4 overall. Inventory number 25-372.

A very rare hollow-cut silhouette with watercolor embellishments of a very young woman wearing a blue puffy sleeve dress. While at first glance it appears to have been done by Ezra Wood, the Puffy Sleeve artist, upon close inspection, there is no convincing evidence connecting it to Wood. On page 51 of A Loving Likeness, you will find another portrait by the same unidentified hand of Miss Boynton, c1830 and like her, this offering rests in its original pressed brass frame under historic glass with an acid free mounting. Size: 4.75 x 3.75 overall. Inventory number 25-368.

$2900 INQUIRE

Doris Stauble, 1918-2007. Wiscasset, Maine. Her arrangements are iconic with collectors of New England antiques and accessories and while they don't have great age, they have established a place in collections from coast to coast. Like any artisan, some of her arrangements are better than others, but take a good look at this offering and I think you'll agree, this one sets a very high bar. An early wallpaper box was selected and filled with complimentary colorful fruits and floral accoutrements. This is truly one of the finest arrangements we have ever owned. Dimensions: 11 x 10 x 7.5. Inventory number 25-350.

$1450 INQUIRE

A late 19th or early 20th century wall box with a pierced 5 point star. Its tapered body is additionally complemented with a silhouetted flame finial. Excellent first color and surface add to its overall appeal. Size: 12.5 x 3.73 x 2.75. Inventory number 25-329.

A compelling hand carved and painted ventriloquist head. When squeezing its compression spring, it activates a mechanism which opens and closes its mouth. A pure Maine Old Squaw decoy from Downeast Maine. Though crudely carved it served well and remains in very good condition. Note the relief carved wings are heart shaped. It measures 10.5 inches long and retains nearly all of its original paint. c1930-40. Inventory number 25-308.

Absolutely charming diminutive marble lamb carved in a reclining pose. Being as small as it is, I can only think it was made and used as a paper weight. Size: 4.5 x 3
Inventory number 25-394.
